The National Year of Reading

The Downham Pride Youth IT Project took part in supporting the launch of the National Year of Reading. Local schools Good Shepherd and Launcelot launched "virtual balloons" on the Internet from the Youth IT Space, carrying details of their favourite books and book reviews.

The pupils were invited to send e-mails to school children in America, Australia, Denmark, New Zealand and England to inform them about their favourite books and authors.

Read all the book reviews here.

The launch was supported by two members of Millwall Football Club - Dave Savage and Robbie Ryan. Many children went back to school very happy!

In Downham Library, children's author Jean Ure undertook a special story telling session during the morning which was attended by one of the local schools. In the afternoon, story teller Carol Russell enthralled another local school with tales and added sound effects from Africa.
