Rich Roman people sent their children to school, the school had one room or it might of been a booth separated from the street by a curtain.
The schools were harsh, many of the teachers were usually Greeks,Many times the teachers often beat their children.
Reading, writing and arithmetic were taught in the school,but boys and girls went to different elementary schools.
Girls were allowed to leave school at 13, but they carried on with there education at home, where they were trained to be good housewifes.
Boys went on to secondary school at 13, but they were taught to learn how to fight and learn how to endure hardship,they were also prepared for a life in the army.
Instead of using pen and paper the children had to write on wax tablets with a bone stylus.
As part of their education girls were taught to sing and to play the lyre.
