A legend told us how Rome was founded by Romulus, a son of the war god Mars.

Romulus had a twin brother called Remus, when they were little they were left to die by the river Tiber.

A she-wolf took the two boys and looked after them untill they were ready to leave.

The two boys founded a city by the river Tiber, In which time Romulus killed Remus in a quarrel, then the big bad brother called the city rome, after his name.

Rome at that time was just a collection of mud huts with thatched roofs,the huts stood on a hill calledPalatine hill which is near the river Tiber.

There were six hills nearby,as the years went by the villages grew larger.

All the villages joined together to become one town, this town was to become the city of Rome.
