During the Spring Term ten schools took up the challenge of providing Out of Hours ICT Learning as part of a pilot project funded by Lewisham Education. Each establishment was free to choose its target group, dates and hours. Individual projects covered a wide range including: homework clubs; after school sessions for parents and children whose second language is English; evening Internet sessions for parents and their children; and sessions for families who do not have access to a computer at home. There has been very positive
feedback from everyone who took part. The projects have
generated a lot of interest in the schools and there has
been a very high take up of places. Most of the schools will
continue to provide similar sessions during the summer term.
Projects which involved parents working with, or alongside,
their children proved particularly successful. Typical comments
were: "I liked it
because I could boss my mum and dad
about." "It was good
showing my mum what we did - she enjoyed looking at
the Internet as she'd never used it
before." "I thought it
was all excellent, I enjoyed myself
thoroughly." |
