These online activities are taken from fourth in a series of publications called "ideas for integrating ICT into the primary and secondary classroom". The first, published in 1999 , focused on:
This publication was reviewed by Heather Govier in Micros in Primary Education (MAPE), Summer 2000, Issue No. 3, p12, 1999. Heather said, " . The book contains 24 distinct activities, each of which is clearly and attractively presented in full colour on a double page spread. The wide ranging nature of these activities (they cover Reception up to Year 9) means that the book is likely to be of particular interest as a source book for ICT Co-ordinators who are developing schemes of work for their schools ."
The second publication focused on:
This publication was reviewed by Neil Stanley, Computer Education, issue 97, p25, Feb 2001. Neil said, " .. The first volume of 'Lewisham ideas' has proved very popular with those in-service and trainee teachers I work with. This new book continues in the same vein with another 22 activities targeted at nursery to Yr 10/11 learners and again including the useful project proformas "
The third publication focused on:
This publication was reviewed by Alan Rodgers & Angella Streluk in MAPE Newsletter, Summer 2002, p10, 2002. Alan & Angella said, " This book, the third in a series, aims to help teachers integrate ICT into the broader curriculum. Assessment of ICT is still a problem for many teachers. The book provides support for this by addressing a range of issues "
This fourth publication in the series focuses on:
The Purpose All four publications have responded to requests from Lewisham teachers for exemplification material to support the teaching of ICT in the context of curriculum subjects. In response to teachers who are using their new broadband connection to the Internet to develop e-learning, the fourth publication includes a wide range of material showing how e-mail, e-discussion, web sites and the London Grid for Learning (LGfL) 'digitalbrain' portal can be used to support teaching and learning. Most of the activities are supported by lesson plans available on this site. The activities are designed to complement existing ICT schemes, such as QCA primary and secondary ICT schemes of work, by providing ideas for different ways in which ICT can be used to enhance teaching and learning in the classroom. The activities have been planned in line with the National Curriculum (NC) 2000 programmes of study (POS) and have been assessed against the ICT attainment target (AT). Where relevant, the activities have also been crossed referenced with the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategy objectives. The material will be helpful to subject/classroom teachers looking for ideas for integrating ICT, especially e-learning, into curriculum teaching. ICT Co-ordinators will also find this a useful source book of exemplar material to support assessment and moderation in schools. The Activities Most of the activities have been developed as a collaborative exercise between teachers working in the same school, in different schools, and/or with advisory teachers working in Lewisham LEA. The activities illustrate the process of developing ICT and in particular e-learning in classrooms. This process has been informed by techniques associated with action research methodology and involves: 1) identifying and
planning an ICT activity within a subject context Each activity has been planned within a subject context. In most of the activities, ICT is the focus for teaching and another subject is being consolidated. The background teaching, particularly of the subject, is explicit in the 'Context' section of the materials. Pupils' work has been assessed and teachers have selected samples of work from one attainment target level as illustration. All the software referred to is generic and similar software should be available on computers in classrooms used for curriculum purposes. Online resources and web site addresses have been included and are listed at the beginning of each activity under "Resources". Printable proformas for planning, assessment and evaluation are also available on this web site. |
