Publications
Lewisham teachers have worked in teams to develop and publish ICT material in order to share best practice. Some of these materials are available in print form, some are also available on the web, while the Talent Materials are only available on the web.
Integrating ICT
This series now covers four volumes and aims to provide ideas for ways in which ICT can enhance the curriculum in all subject contexts in both the primary and secondary phase and as such complement the primary and secondary DfES & QCA ICT Schemes of Work.
The first publication (published in 1999 and revised and reprinted in 2001) focused on:
- Integrating ICT into Literacy and Numeracy
- The control strand of the ICT National Curriculum
- use of the Internet and e-mail
This publication was reviewed by Heather Govier in Micros in Primary Education (MAPE) Summer 2000, Issue No 3, p12. Heather said “ ... The book contains 24 distinct activities, each of which is clearly and attractively presented in full colour on a double page spread. The wide ranging nature of these activities (they cover Reception up to Year 9) means that the book is likely to be of particular interest as a source book for ICT Co-ordinators who are developing schemes of work for their schools ..... ”
The second publication focused on:
- Using the Internet for research in the context of curriculum subjects
- Using e-mail to communicate and share ideas
This publication was reviewed by Neil Stanley, Computer Education, issue 97, p25, Feb 2001. Neil said, “.... The first volume of 'Lewisham ideas' has proved very popular with those in-service and trainee teachers I work with. This new book continues in the same vein with another 22 activities targeted at nursery to yr 10/11 learners and again including useful project proformas .... ”
The third publication in the series (http://ecs.lewisham.gov.uk/intict) focused on:
- Integrating ICT into curriculum teaching
This publication was reviewed by Alan Rodgers and Angella Streluk in MAPE Newsletter, Summer 2002, p11. “This book, the third in a series, aims to help teachers integrate ICT into the broader curriculum. It includes activities for Foundation to Yr 11, and activities for most curriculum areas. ... The elements included in outlining the planning of ICT activities are listed, and along with the worked examples should help teachers to be able to develop their own activities in a similar way ... ”
The fourth publication in the series (http://ecs.lewisham.gov.uk/intict) focused on:
- Integrating e-learning into curriculum teaching
This publication was reviewed by Heather Govier in MAPE and is on-line on: http://www.mape.org.uk/curriculum/reviewbook/review9.htm “This fourth book in the series is another excellent resource for teachers, which maintains the standard and the format of the previous three volumes. The books provide exemplification materials to support the teaching of ICT in the context of curriculum subjects. Activities are provided for year groups from nursery to Year 12 and almost all areas of the curriculum are covered.”
The third and fourth volumes, including additional lesson plans and lesson resources, are also available on-line on: http://ecs.lewisham.gov.uk/intict
