Lewisham ICT Projects
Current and Recent Projects

1) Secondary Strategy (ICT Strand)

The ICT Strand of the Secondary Strategy began in September 2002. Since 2002 Lewisham schools have had access to a secondary ICT Consultant to support the development of ICT in KS3 and KS4. During this time there has been a rising trend in pupils’ attainment in ICT. For details of pupils’ attainment over the last 3 years see the Targets page.

2) Hands on Support for Schools (HoS)

In 2004 Lewisham offered the ICT Hands on Support (HoS) programme to schools. HoS provides an individually tailored ICT support programme to help schools develop their ICT. Between 2004 and 2007 over 50% Lewisham schools have accessed this programme.

3) Framework for ICT Technical Support (FITs)

In 2005 Lewisham began piloting the implementation of the Framework for ICT Support (FITs) programme. The FITs programme is designed to help schools manage their ICT technical support. More details about FITs, including case studies from schools involved on the FITs section.

4) Using ICT in the Foundation Stage

In 2005/2006 this DfES funded project in Lewisham set out to explore how ICT could be used to support children’s assessment in the Foundation Stage. Teachers in six nursery settings were given Pocket PCs and training in how to use these. The findings from the project showed that digital camera element of the Pocket PC was most useful for taking still and moving images during observations. These digital images informed teacher discussion following observations of children.

5) London Challenge, Design Collaborative Partnership Project

In 2005/2006 London Challenge funded the ‘Design Collaborative Partnership Project’. The aim of the project was to develop subject networks through enquiry-based partnerships to tackle student underachievement. Teachers, students and consultants from 4 LAs worked together with a Higher Institution partner. Lewisham led on the ICT network in partnership with Kings College. Action research projects included: home/school learning using on-line resources; interactive whiteboards and students attainment; using student learning diaries to tackle underachievement. Some examples of this work can be found on: http://ecs.lewisham.gov.uk/intict/vol5/activitiesvol5.htm

6) Strategic Leadership in ICT Training for Schools (SLICT)

In 2006/2007 this NCSL funded project brought together the expertise of NCSL, Becta, SSAT and the Local Authority to provide SLICT for London schools. The ‘London SLICT’ programme provides 2 days training for Head teachers, senior managers and ICT leaders and includes a visit to a school where there is exemplary practice in ICT. In Lewisham 43% primary and 50% secondary schools have completed ‘London SLICT’. More information can be found on the Downloads page.

7) Video Conferencing Project

In 2006 Lewisham schools were invited to bid for a video conferencing kit. 13 Lewisham primary and secondary schools were successful. The kits were set up in schools in early 2007. Schools in the pilot are expected to write up and disseminate the results of their experiences with video conferencing. Resources to support schools engaged in the video conferencing project can be found on: www.lgfl.net/lgfl/leas/lewisham/resources/videoconferencing/vc_1.htm

8) Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Pilot Project

In 2007 the London Grid for Learning (LGfL) selected a new Learning Platform called ‘Fronter’. Lewisham invited schools to join a pilot project to explore how the new VLE can be used to support learning, teaching and school management. Schools joining the pilot will be expected to write up and disseminate the results of their experiences. The letter of invitation can be found onthe Downloads page.
