LIFE IN BRITAIN

What jobs were you offered when you came to England?
I was offered 5 different jobs but I did not take any. So I started repairing cars and lorries and the week after that I returned to the Royal Air Force. There was another job I had which was working at the Post Office. I worked there for 33 years.

What job was the hardest?
Well, I have to say it was working on the farm which was very hard but my nicest job was working in the post office. I sort of had good and bad jobs.

What job did you think you were best at?
To tell you the truth, I liked repairing aircraft and I think I was good working in the post office and sorting letters.

Did it feel strange when you came to England?
It felt very, very strange because I left Jamaica at 75 degrees and when I came here it was -3º. People had different accents which felt a bit strange too. But I did feel at home.

What did people think when you came to England?
At first people thought black people couldn't drive buses which is a load of rubbish !
