The
LewishamTurkish Education Community Council (LTECC) was
established in October 1996 and consists of
Turkish-speaking educationalists, social workers, parents,
school governors and other interested professionals
who live or work in Lewisham.
The group aims
to:
remove barriers
to equality of educational opportunity for Turkish-speaking
bilingual learners in every stage of their education;
develop and
strengthen links with homes, schools and community groups and
support strategies for increased parental
participation;
encourage
Turkish-speaking parents to share their skills and expertise with
schools and classrooms and to take an active role in their
children's education;
support
bilingualism and to devise and provide appropriate materials which
enable Turkish-speaking bilingual pupils to gain full access to
the curriculum;
advise schools,
parents and community groups on how to raise achievement levels of
Turkish-speaking bilingual pupils;
provide
Turkish-speaking pupils in Lewisham schools, including Community
Education Lewisham, with a holistic supportive environment in
which growth, development and increased educational achievement
can be attained.
