Sybil's Faith

Sybil's faith has obviously been tried many times, due to the fact that she has experienced many things as a black person in a whit-controlled society.

Sybil and Joe arrived in England at a time when cards in newsagents' windows advertising rooms for rent often added "No Coloureds". In the book "Living in Harmony - The Story of Sybil Phoenix" it says that Sybil once remembered seeing one card that read "No coloureds, No Irish, No dogs". This really hurt Sybil, as she had probably never experienced this sort of discrimination before, due to the fact that she previously lived in British Guyana where practically everyone was black.

Although Sybil had been treated quite badly by white people this hasn't made her dislike white people or to treat them badly.

Whilst reading about Sybil's life and personal tragedies there is one thing I came across which is that throughout Sybil's whole life she has lived through faith and persistence. In Sybil's book called "Willing Hands" one of the things that Sybil talks about is how she asked for faith and her prayer was answered. She also says that she has lived through faith and it is one of the reasons she is alive.
