Targets
Each school will be expected to set their own targets, bearing in mind: a) the existing attainment in ICT of pupils in the school; b) the LEA targets and c) the Government targets. Targets should be realistic and challenging.
The Government targets for ICT beyond 2004 are:
- KS3: By 2004, 75% to achieve level 5 or above in ICT at end Key Stage 3 as a milestone to the 2007 target of 85%
- KS4: By 2004 all schools to have at least 20% pupils of 16 year olds achieving 5 GCSEs at grade A* - C
- Computer:Pupil ratios: By 2004 1:8 in primary and 1:5 in secondary (with special schools at least in line with secondary schools)
- Broadband: By 2006 all schools to have a broadband connection (at least 2mb for primary and 8mb for secondary schools)
- e-Government: By 2005 100% of all key government services will be accessible electronically. All citizens should have access to the Internet, either in their own homes or through community access points
- Joined up Children's services: By 2006 at least one school in every LEA will receive funding to become an extended school
- Laptops for teachers: By 2006 two thirds of teachers to have access to personal laptops
(Full details of each of the above targets and their source used to be found (April 2005) in Key ICT Targets for LEAs and Schools on the Building the Grid site. They might be available on the Becta Schools site. The Government's vision for ICT was outlined in 'Fulfilling the Potential: Transforming teaching and learning through ICT in schools', which is no longer available on the web.)
The Lewisham Targets for primary and secondary schools are:
- Primary: Quality of ICT provision judged 100% satisfactory or better; 80% good or better by March 2006
- Primary: Use of ICT across the curriculum judged 100% satisfactory or better; 70% good or better by March 2006
- KS3: By 2005 64% pupils achieving NC L5+; by 2006 64% and by 2007 69%
- KS4: By 2006 ICT assessment/accreditation system in place for all pupils
- All phases: By 2006 ICT used extensively across the curriculum to support subject teaching
- Computer:Pupil ratios: by 2006 all schools to achieve, maintain or exceed 1:8 in primary and 1:5 in secondary (with special at least in line with secondary schools)
- Broadband: By 2006 all secondary schools on 10mb or higher and primary schools requesting upgrades to 5mb or higher
- Cross Curricular ICT: By 2006 ICT used extensively across the curriculum to support subject teaching
Progress towards targets:
| KS1 & KS2 |
|
| Year | Target: by 2006 ICT provision in 100% primary
schools, as judged by Ofsted, to be satisfactory or better |
| 2002/2003 | Analysis of 9 Ofsted reports in Summer 02 and Autumn 03 showed 88% quality of ICT provision as satisfactory or better. Lewisham LEA Statistical Profile, Ofsted, 2002, shows Lewisham has higher percentage of good/very good subject level learning inspection judgements than statistical neighbours and higher than schools nationally. |
| 2003/2004 | Analysis of 8 Ofsted reports in February 2004 showed 100% quality of ICT provision as satisfactory or better. |
| 2004/2005 | Analysis of 10 Ofsted reports in February 2005 showed 90% quality of ICT provision as satisfactory or better |
